Casdoor vs Auth0

An open-source alternative to Auth0

Auth0 is a proprietary identity service from Okta, priced by monthly active users. Casdoor is open source: run it yourself for free, or let us host a dedicated instance for a flat monthly price.

Why teams choose Casdoor

No MAU bill

Cloud plans are a flat monthly price, so more users don't mean a bigger invoice.

Run it anywhere

The same Apache-2.0 code runs in our cloud or on your servers, and you can move between them.

Authorization included

Casbin RBAC, ABAC and ACL are built in, instead of being left to your code.

Ready for AI agents

Casdoor can be the OAuth authorization server for your MCP servers, with tokens scoped to the tools a user allowed.

When Auth0 may fit better

  • You want a multi-tenant service and never plan to run identity yourself.
  • You need a vendor with SOC 2 or ISO 27001 reports for the hosted service today. Casdoor Cloud does not have them yet; teams with that requirement usually self-host Casdoor in their own certified environment.

Moving from Auth0 to Casdoor

Casdoor speaks OpenID Connect, OAuth 2.0 and SAML, so most apps only need a new issuer URL and client credentials. Export your users from Auth0 and import them into Casdoor, then switch apps over one by one. We can help plan larger migrations.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Is Casdoor a drop-in replacement for Auth0?
Not a drop-in, but close for standard integrations: apps that use OpenID Connect, OAuth 2.0 or SAML switch by changing the issuer URL and client credentials. Logic in Auth0 Actions and other Auth0-specific features needs to be rebuilt with Casdoor's equivalents or your own code.
How does Casdoor's pricing compare with Auth0's?
Auth0 charges by monthly active users. Casdoor Cloud is from $25/month for a dedicated instance, with no per-user or per-MAU fees, and the open-source edition is free to self-host.
